Shoes for Smiles

Holding a shoe drive is a great way to volunteer for BSNCF and raise funds for our Smile Kit program.

The FBLA Interact Club of Riverside High School in Virginia held a successful shoe drive collecting over 300 pairs of used athletic shoes. In addition, they raised enough funds and in kind donations to fund 100 Smile Kits.

In the spirit of environmental and economic sustainability, The Barnett Searing National Cancer Foundation, is proud to partner with GotSneakers, a sneaker recycling organization, to collect used athletic shoes. BSNCF receives up to $5 for every pair of wearable athletic sneakers. Funds earned will be allocated to support our mission of supporting female cancer patients and their families throughout the United States. There is no limit to the amount of funds that we can earn together.

Holding a shoe drive is a great way to volunteer for BSNCF and amplify our message in your community. To start a shoe drive in your place of work, worship, school or neighborhood, simply collect gently used athletic shoes at a designated drop-off point. After collection, BSNCF will mail you a pre-paid shipping bag. Once the gently used shoes are mailed to GotSneakers, they will issue a donation check back to  BSNCF.

This is a fantastic project for schools, athletic teams, girl and boy scouts, families, individuals, or corporations wanting to make an impact and can be implemented safely during COVID-19.

Collecting shoes is easy! We suggest optionally setting up a fundraising link for your project as some supporters will not have shoes to recycle but will want to contribute to your project and spread joy.

Email info@bsncf.org for more information or to start your fundraiser.

Students Making Smiles

"Students Making Smiles" unites our youth together to make a stand against cancer.

It's an opportunity for your school, club, sorority or fraternity to join the fight to bring awareness to this disease and offer support to the cancer thrivers who are in the greatest fight of their lives.

During the COVID-19 pandemic there are several ways that your school or club can participate in "Students Making Smiles" and volunteer safely and virtually.  Your group can fundraise, hold a shoe drive, participate in the BSNCF Virtual Run/Walk, and create cards for cancer patients.

BSNCF offers service hour credits to students who participate in our programs.   Simply, complete your hours and then tag and like our Facebook and Instagram pages and use #sendingsmiles.  Email us at info@bsncf.org and a BSNCF staffer will approve your volunteer service hours!  Complete the inquiry form below to get started!

Participate in the Virtual BSNCF Run-Walk Memorial Day Weekend 2022.  Gather your group and make a stand against cancer!  Choose your distance and email us at info@bsncf.org for a special code for your group!

Create cards for cancer patients!  Help us send “Smiles Across the Miles!”

Hold a “Shoes for Smiles” drive.  Collect gently used athletic shoes.  We provide a pre-paid bag to mail the shoes and receive a dollar per pair for our “Smile Kit” fund.

Start a fundraiser with your school or club for BSNCF.  We will help you set up your own unique link to collect donations.

Smile Kits

What Are Smile Kits?

As part of our mission to offer unexpected acts of kindness, we provide care packages, also called “Smile Kits,” to female cancer patients. Smile Kits contain soothing items such as a fuzzy blanket, a journal, a stress-relieving adult coloring book, colored pencils, fuzzy socks, custom lip balm, and maybe even something a little silly. For a personal touch, packages also include cards of encouragement created by volunteers, students, and other survivors.

Your generosity has allowed BSNCF to deliver more than 4,800 Smile Kits to cancer patients in every state in the U.S. BSNCF is a nonprofit, so Smile Kits are only possible through tax-deductible donations by individuals like you. Thank you!

How Can I Request a Smile Kit?

If you would like to nominate a special woman to receive a Smile Kit, use the form and consider paying it forward: donate, start a fundraiser, walk, or run in honor of your loved one in the BSNCF Run/Walk.

Just $35 helps cover the cost of one Smile Kit, and $100 funds care packages for three women. Every donation – large or small – makes a difference. Donations help cover the costs of care package contents and shipping for cancer patients to pay it forward.

Nominations with a donation or BSNCF Run/Walk Registration are guaranteed to receive a kit as well as priority and extra goodies. All requests are verified for authenticity and are filled as funding allows. Please do not send multiple requests.

Fighting cancer, but still fabulous!

What Are People Saying?

“Just received the most thoughtful and sweetest “Smile Kit.” Thank you so much! I’m already using the pink heating pad. What a wonderful surprise to receive after just getting home from the hospital and day 3 of radiation!”    – Natasha, Clifton, Virginia

“Thanks SO much for thinking of me. Saturday was my ickiest post-treatment day so far, but your Smile Kit literally made me smile. It has a lovely fleece blanket, some cozy aloe socks, lip balm, several handmade cards, and a wonderful famous world cities coloring book and pencils that reminded me that better days will (hopefully) be ahead. You made my day!”    – Smile Kit Recipient
